Sydney needs results to fall its way if it is to host a semi-final series in the 2019 Playoffs presented by Boral after falling 2-1 down in its Brut Australian Baseball series against Adelaide on Saturday afternoon.

The Sox gave up three first-inning runs and were unable to rally, falling 3-2 at Adelaide Shores in game one of a doubleheader against the Bite.

Sydney now needs to win tonight's series finale and hope Brisbane drops one of its two remaining games against Geelong-Korea.

If the Sox drop game two of their doubleheader with Adelaide tonight they will need GK to take two games off the Bandits and hope Canberra fall to Perth at least once in their remaining contests.

The Bite jumped to an early lead at West Beach, striking with two out in the first.

Stefan Welch drove in the opening run before Jordan McArdle's two-run double made it 3-0.

Sydney cut a run off the lead in the third following a single from Gift Ngoepe.

Jason Roger's RBI-single in the sixth pulled the Sox within a run.

But Ryan Chaffe closed the door, despite allowing a single to Trent D'Antonio and allowing him to advance on a wild pitch, as Adelaide took a 2-1 series lead.

Bite starter Michael Gahan worked five innings, striking out four and allowing one run on three hits and a walk.

Sydney starter Luke Wilkins punched out seven in five innings.

The series wraps up from 7.20pm (local time).
