The Adelaide Bite, proudly presented by SA Power Networks, has strengthened its pitching stocks with the signing of Americans Chris Powell and Max Beatty, with the duo bringing Double-A and Triple-A experience.

Both are expected to slot into the starting rotation and bring invaluable experience as they also look to earning new contracts back in the USA.

Powell, 25, comes with an impressive 11-4 win-loss record despite only making seven starts in his 54-game career. The California native was signed in 2015 by the LA Dodgers out of Cal Poly Pomona but was released in July of this year.

Manager Chris Adamson says his strength will be throwing strikes with Powell notching 115 strikeouts in 112 1/3 innings across his career, which saw him pitch at Double-A Tulsa Drillers.

"Powell is a strike throwing machine who comes to us with plenty of experience," Adamson said.

"I look forward to him really helping us this season."

Since being released by the Dodgers, Powell finished off his 2017 with Sioux City in the American Association.

Meanwhile, Beatty links up with the Bite after the Chicago White Sox released him in June after he was initially drafted by San Diego in 2013.

Having spent his college career at Pacific Lutheran, Beatty, now 26, was diagnosed with testicular cancer in 2011 but has been cancer free since 2012 after undergoing surgery and chemotherapy.

This year saw him reach the Triple-A level with the Charlotte Knights, and he carries a career 10-15, 4.48 ERA after making 23 starts in 68 games.

Adamson believes Beatty, who used to pitch for Brooke Knight's Corvallis Knights, is the perfect fit for the Bite and his focus on the mound will lead the side to success.

"He comes to us under the recommendation from Brooke Knight and is an immense competitor with a great arm," he said.

"He has the make-up which really suits our team."

The duo will be in action this Friday night for Adelaide in our pre-season hit-out against the Emerging Bite squad and SABL All-Stars. Entry is a gold coin donation at the Adelaide Shores Baseball Complex with the first game at 5.30PM before the Bite take on the All-Stars.
