SYDNEY - The Sydney Blue Sox are excited to announce the signing of Michael Suchy and Arden Pabst from the Pittsburgh Pirates pipeline for the 2017/18 Australian Baseball League season.

24-year-old Michael Suchy is an outfielder who was drafted in the 5th round of the 2014 MLB Draft by the Pirates from the Florida Gulf Coast University. In 2017, Suchy played for the Altoona Curve in the Eastern League hitting 4 home runs and driving in 17 RBIs in 78 games.

Earlier this year, Suchy spent time on the Pirates Spring Training roster in which he hit his 2nd home run in a big-league spring training game.

Manager Tony Harris said "Michael Suchy, is renowned for his power and outstanding defence in the Outfield, he's an exciting player that had some physical setbacks this year and is keen to get some more playing time and help the Blue Sox playoff run this season".

Pabst, a 22-year-old catcher, was drafted in 12th round of the 2016 MLB Draft by the Pirates from the Georgia Institute of Technology. Pabst spent his 2017 season with the West Virginia Power in the South Atlantic League. In 2017, Pabst hit .242 with 4 home runs and 24 RBIs.

In regard Pabst, Tony Harris commented "He is the typical leading quarterback catcher type, that will take control behind the plate and direct the ball club on the field outstandingly".

Harris continued, saying "We are lucky to have two such exciting players from Pittsburgh. Combining that with our local players and other impact imports, things are really shaping for an exciting year of Blue Sox Baseball".
