ABL Returns to Wollongong
09/29/2017 12:52 AM ET

For the second consecutive year, top level Australian baseball comes to Wollongong, as the Sydney Blue Sox and Canberra Cavalry do battle in the Wollongong Classic.

Thomas Dalton Park will come alive at 2pm on the 26th of November as two traditional ABL rivals descend on the third largest city in NSW. Last year saw thousands of people descend on Thomas Dalton Park; and as per last year's event, this will also be a free event.

Last year the Cavalry and Blue Sox played out a historic game, with the Cavalry scoring a mammoth 21 runs to eventually run our 21-11 winners.

Destination Wollongong General Manager Mark Sleigh is excited to see the ABL return to Wollongong in 2017.

"After the success of the inaugural Wollongong Classic at Thomas Dalton Park last year we are pleased to see the event return in 2017," said Sleigh.

"Last year's game saw a great turnout on the day as well as many fans tuning in to live stream the event. We expect this year's event to be even more exciting, showcasing the electric atmosphere that ABL fans are accustomed to."

Baseball Australia CEO Cam Vale believes bringing top-level baseball to regional Australia has significant upside.

"Wollongong has always had a passionate baseball community, and bringing ABL games to this great city has been a highly successful partnership," Vale said.

"Bringing the best baseball in the country to regional Australia will continue to be a priority for the ABL, and we expect this event in Wollongong to set the standard moving forward."
