The Adelaide Bite, proudly presented by SA Power Networks, is excited to announce Jack O'Loughlin and Ky Hampton have been named to the Australian Under-18 team ahead of the U-18 Baseball World Cup in Thunder Bay, Canada.

Both players made their Adelaide Bite and ABL debuts in 2016/17. In November, O'Loughlin became the youngest player in modern day ABL history to win a game. He was one-upped by Hampton who became the new youngest winner after beating the Blue Sox in January.

Seventeen-year-old O'Loughlin capped off a brilliant season by signing a contract with Major League Baseball's Detroit Tigers after his 3-3, 3.02 ERA put him amongst the best pitchers across the whole competition.

He was then named as Pitcher of the Year for the Bite, as well as Rookie of the Year and has recently been a part of the MLB Australian Academy Program in Surfers Paradise where he cemented his status as one of Australia's top prospects.

Meanwhile, 16-year-old Hampton claimed the Australian Senior League Championship with the Adelaide Armada who recently finished with a 2-2 record at the Senior League World Series in Easley, South Carolina. It followed up his strong rookie season which saw him earn a 1-0 record with a 1.35 ERA.

Taking place from September 1 to September 10, Australia will begin its campaign against South Korea, with Italy, Nicaragua, Chinese Taipei and Canada also in their group.

Australia's best finish in the tournament came in 2010 when it was also held at Thunder Bay with the Aussies coming second. Previously they had finished third on five occasions, while they came fourth in 2015, the most recent edition.
