Blue Sox alum to play for White Sox

Sydney Blue Sox are pleased to share with our fans that 2013/14 import player Jacob May has made it to the big leagues.

May will be the second in his family to play for the Chicago White Sox after he was officially been signed to play centerfield with the MLB team this week. He received a text from his great-uncle Carlos who is currently serving as the team ambassador. "He was like, 'I'm excited for you. Get used to the cold,' said May adding that "it's awesome to kind of be able to carry on that name a little bit.

The call up came from the White Sox trading Peter Bourjos to the Tampa Bay Rays for either a player to be named at a later date or for a cash consideration; which meant that May had all but won the job as the White Sox centre fielder for their Opening Day.

The position initially opened up after Charlie Tilson, who is currently working his way back from surgery, injured his right foot, meaning he is not expected to make a full recovery until late May or Early June.

So far the reaction to May signing with the White Sox has been mixed, but that is not affecting May, "As long as everyone in that locker room knows what I am capable of, that's all I care about … I just want to play my butt off. I have wanted to play hard and just have my teammates' back and be a good locker room guy"

"My whole life I have been dreaming about this," says May. "Since I was a little kid, I have been around locker rooms and players. It's a little surreal. I'm just out there to help this team win and hopefully I will do that and carry the [May] name well.

During his time at the Sydney Blue Sox, May showed promise. In the year that he was playing for the Blue Sox he had 182 at bats with 26 runs from 49 hits and stole 17 bases. May also batted in 12 runs with 4 homeruns contributing to the achievement. These feats were mirrored in Spring Training career statistics as well. In his 106 at bats, he had 37 hits with 22 runs, 9 RBI's, and 8 stolen bags.

We are proud to call Jacob May a Sydney Blue Sox alum and cannot wait to see him in action this MLB season!
