Brian Burgamy, the SAM BAT Silver Slugger Award winner and ABL record-holder with a .409 batting average, is an outstanding candidate for the 2012 Helms Award. On Saturday night, Australia will find out if he adds to his trophy collection.
This season was a banner year for the ABL in many ways, one of which was the 9 players who signed MLB-affiliated contracts with a new team during the season. A handful have an opportunity to make it to the Major League level in 2012.
The Heat's Tim Kennelly and Warwick Saupold are up for the Helms Award alongside Canberra's Brian Burgamy at Saturday's Baseball Australia Diamond Awards. Despite the competition, Kennelly's outstanding season would make him a worthy choice.
